Wonderful Little Things, our forest pre-school and toddler group has started a fresh set of sessions today and due to last minute cancellations we have places available for 2-3 year olds!

This group is an outdoor parent and toddler group within an enclosed safe woodland area of school grounds and gives opportunities:

• for pre-school children to engage with nature, wildlife and the outdoors in a safe outdoors environment

• for new parents to bond with their children taking part in activities together in a safe outdoor environment

• for new parents to make new bonds within their communities

The group is free to attend and is run in 6 sessions, giving an opportunity for children and parents to come to a series of sessions which would be necessary for ongoing development.

Activities will revolve around natural play and give opportunities for both parents and children to experience natural play and the benefits of it. They will also learn new skills so activities they take part in and enjoy can be carried out in time outside of the toddler group.

The sessions will be centred round the children’s development, offering them chances to explore the natural world, develop motor skills, aiding them in independent play and learning.

Examples of activities are outdoor storytelling, mini beast hunts, outdoor cooking, den building, model den building, wild art, mud play, flag making, leaf prints, sensory games, hide and seek.

Sessions are led by a Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioner (from Newground see www.gwpl.co.uk) and assisted by Teaching Assistants from St Mary's CE Primary Rawtenstall. The group meets each Thursday between 11am and 12.30pm in the school's environmental area. Please let the school know if you would like to attend.  There is some availability for 3-4 year olds too.  Their group runs on the same day from 1.30pm to 3pm.
