Could it be? Yes it could…

The weather is warmer, skies are bluer and all over East Lancashire the daffs are nodding their heads in agreement – Spring is most definitely here!

And here at Wonderful Things we have been springing into all sorts of action – planning loads of great activity days for Easter, finding new activity providers (Dragon Day is coming!!), dreaming up our second #rockchallenge (more about that later) and planning lots of fundraising so that we can keep our costs to families as low as possible!

We had an incredible week of activities during February half term, with Chatburn CE Primary and Newchurch St Nicholas CE Primary joining our existing bases at Water Primary and the 38th Rossendale Scout Hut to host a wide variety of days. We also welcomed new Youth Volunteers – who were absolutely brilliant! – at Chatburn CE Primary and Newchurch St Nicholas – a very big thank you to them, and their families, for giving their time and support!

Easter 2017 will be our most ambitious Easter holiday to date – we are aiming to provide 18 activity days over 5 bases and provide a high quality of activities to more children than ever. Our new Youth Volunteers will be back in action supporting the younger children as they continue their volunteering journey with us too.

We are pleased to be working with some incredibly talented activity providers again for Easter: Academy of Fun have created ‘mash up’ days for us that enable children to learn a variety of skills (and because every day should have a little Lego in it!) to complement their Worldcrafts, Superhero Academy and Crazy Sports Days (think pizza box relays and holes in buckets!); Christopher Hodgson will be helping children create their own adverts and film them; Olly’s Woodland Learning are running a Forest Day (very kindly sponsored by Rossendale Bespoke Timber); Blue Moose Dance are back with us for a day of Pirate Dance (yes, Pirates do dance – think Pirates of the Caribbean!!); Safari Phil is bringing his incredible Animal Day to us; Alison Driver, Alexis Valentine and James Stroud are sharing their talents and skills on ‘I Want To Be’ Day (there will be drawing and etching skills, woodworking skills and CV designing); Kyle will be Didgeridoo-ing his way over to Chatburn to teach children how to make and play their own didgeridoos; Kate and Julia are creating a crafts and cookery day with an Easter theme too!

We are also running a ‘specialised’ theatre week from 18-21 April, facilitated by Christopher Hodgson. Planned over 4 activity days, children will engage in drama around Myths & Legends, dabble into Shakespeare, create props and hone their performance skills and take part in Dragon Day (there may even be a ‘George’ around... armed with a ukulele). Children attending all 4 days will qualify for their Arts Award Certificate at Discover Level.

For details of specific activity days and venues please check our flyers and booking page!

Now to our next Wonderful Things challenge...

You may remember we launched a #paperchallenge for February half term, and had some amazing entries – and 2 brilliant winners - Kara and William – who each won 3 FREE DAYS of Wonderful Things!! Well done!

Well, our second challenge for Easter is our #rockchallenge and this time we want you to get outside into the fresh Spring air, find some outdoor materials and create the ‘WT’ initials, take a photo and tweet/share it with us on our facebook page @wonderfulthingsproject or twitter @WT_Lancashire – don’t forget to use the hashtag #rockchallenge to tag your entry! We will choose our favourite 5 entries on Wed 19 April and share them on our social media for a public vote. The winner will be announced on Wed 26 April at 5pm! The winning image will be our profile picture for 1 month! So – get outdoors, get creative and share your WT creations with us! Below is one that Olly’s Woodland Learning created for us recently (Wow!! Those wellies are MUDDY!):

I wonder if anyone can guess what our third #challenge will be?...
We look forward to seeing lots of you at our activity days over Easter!
