We are delighted to welcome a new volunteer, Will Shore, to our fabulous team of Youth Volunteers. Will, who is a pupil at Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar, has joined Wonderful Things to help us at activities and as a guest blogger on the website; his work for us will contribute to the Volunteering section of his Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Here is his first blog:
A weekend of particularly wonderful things was held at St Mary’s CE Primary School Rawtenstall on the 13th and 14th December as part of the Christmas themed activities on offer to Rossendale children.
On Saturday, the children had lots of fun creating gifts, tasting truffles and wrapping their gifts for friends and families. On asking, Jack and Izzy both commented on how much they loved making and trying their truffles and the comment everybody loves to receive was heard from Jen: “I loved all of it!”
Sunday welcomed students from UCLAN Burnley who created a day of fun for children which concluded with a performance for parents of Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. Both productions had modern twists in them as the children had been encouraged to rewrite traditional pantomimes and add their own slant. The UCLAN Burnley students had created the workshop as part of a Theatre Studies assignment and were assessed by their tutor throughout the day.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers for their help this past weekend and throughout 2014 and to the students and tutor from UCLAN Burnley for creating such a great workshop. We hope to see lots of the children again next year but for now it’s time to say goodbye to Wonderful Things until 2015, when we look forward to many more activity days our first being three days of fun in February half term!
