A little while ago we were approached by one of the representatives of the Rossendale 60s Festival and asked whether Wonderful Things would be interested in helping design the decorations for the Magical Mystery Tour (also known as Route 464 on Rosso buses). The 464 fleet is to be adorned in 60s style decor over the weekend of the Festival from 12th to 14th September....yes...all eleven buses!!
Although it was quite an undertaking, we decided that designing some of the decorations for such a great community event would be a challenge fit for Wonderful Things volunteers and some of the children attending the summer weeks of activities between 18th and 29th August. So we agreed and today, with new partner Arty Party Rossendale, we travelled over to another partner organisation in Blackburn, SAMS Scrap store. We filled trolleys with all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff which we are now planning to transform into some of the iconic 60s symbols and themes. Arty Party Rossendale, as an earlier blog mentioned, is working with Wonderful Things to provide fun art and crafts during the summer activity weeks this year.
We plan on having a Magical Mystery Tour room open most of the time during Wonderful Things' summer activities so that every spare moment can be spent designing and creating!
We are also delighted that The Whitaker - Rossendale Museum & Art Gallery - has agreed to display some of the volunteers' and children's art work over the 60s weekend. So if you miss the bus, you can catch a glimpse of our hard work at The Whitaker. A big thank you to them for making this possible.
If you would like to be involved in this fabulous opportunity, please get in touch with Wonderful Things in the usual way - via email (top right of our home page). Facebook or Twitter.
