Why should I book my child on a Wonderful Things Mash Up day? Why? Because, as Academy of Fun put it, “there is more FUN! than you can shake a flamingo at!!!”
We start with Mash Up Tuesday… Lego mosaics are where the children begin, making maps according to a plan. All the maps are put together at the end of the exercise and then children can make their own mosaics using their own choice of pieces.
Then the children go on to cook! Bake off teams will make mug cakes! ingredients, check; equipment, check; instructions, check…. No help or advice is offered unless the children ask for it.
Then it’s back to Lego with an alien adventure. Everyone builds a spaceship or alien of their own design and then it’s a storytime activity The Bantons and the Volminion…you will have to ask your children about them because we have no idea what they are!
The final part of Tuesday’s Mash Up is theatre….lots of quick 5 minute theatrical activities. We love the sound of Zip Zap Boing/Splat, Stuck in the mud, Night in the museum and Where Am I?
We have a second Mash Up on Thursday. Again the day starts with Lego – this time Lego animals and racing cars. Children build a vehicle as whacky and creative as they want. There are instructions for those children who prefer to build Lego that way. Invention and design is encouraged and a ramp used to test the vehicles. Children talk about stability, aero-dynamics and weight/gravity. The animal Lego activity involves building animals and creating a zoo!
Children then get to enjoy a bit of music – particularly violin and karaoke! Short lessons on the violin will be accompanied by other musical opportunities.
Then it’s back to Lego for a while – this time children help build a fun fair with the ferris wheel centrepiece!
Finally, there are a few of the amazing crazy sports Academy of Fun are so great at creating for the children to enjoy including pool noodle hockey!
What's not to love (or shake a flamingo at!!)? Join us for a Mash Up!
