January may have been a grey and chilly month but here at Wonderful Things we got January off to a warm and cosy start with the 2 activity days we ran with Olly’s Woodland Learning at the Scout Hut – a truly brilliant group of children joined us on both days for outdoor forest activities (baking bread twists, den building) and indoor activities (hot choc stirrers, soup making) and we even had games and stories inside Olly’s indoor tipi!
February half term is approaching fast – have you booked your children onto one of our exciting activity days yet? If not then hurry as spaces are filling up!
We are pleased to be offering activities at 4 venues this half term – Newchurch St Nicholas CE Primary in Rossendale and Chatburn CE Primary nr Clitheroe join us for the first time – we welcome them to Wonderful Things! Water Primary is once again hosting 2 days and the Scout Hut, Cloughfold is our final base.
Olly’s Woodland Learning are running the Scout Hut activities on Monday and Tuesday, alongside Art activities from our Youth Volunteers (based on Chinese New Year and Valentines! – look out for their Wonderful creations!) Our Youth Volunteers will be supported by Lou Andrews from Lancashire Boys & Girls Club who has been working with them recently.
Wednesday at the Scout Hut is being run by Academy of Fun – Kate Badger has been creating a day of crafts from ‘Around the World’ for us! Kate will then move to Newchurch St Nicholas for Thursday’s Lego Day and Friday’s Superheroes day! Anyone who has been to an Academy of Fun day knows how awesome they are!!
At Water Primary we have a Didgeridoo Day on Thursday where children will learn all about Aboriginal culture, play a real didgeridoo and then create their own to take home. Then on Friday Blue Moose Dance will join us to run a day of dance based on a Chinese theme (linked to Chinese New Year).
At Chatburn CE Primary Academy of Fun are running a Lego Day for us on the Monday, then Julia and Kate are running a Scrap Challenge Day on Tuesday!
Now then – who’s up for a quick challenge? We challenge you to create something from a square piece of paper – it can be as big, small, wacky, neat, weird, but mostly wonderful as you like! Take a photo of your creation and tweet it to us here @WT_Lancashire / post on our Facebook page @wonderfulthingsproject with the tag #paperchallenge.
We will choose our 5 favourites on 15 Feb at 5pm and put them to a public vote. Voting ends on 22 Feb at 5pm. The #paperchallenge with the most public votes wins 5 Wonderful Things Day Vouchers (worth £75!) – Get creating and posting and GOOD LUCK #paperchallenge
