Statement from the Board of Directors, Wonderful Things
It is with great regret and sadness that the Board of Directors have decided to cancel all future Wonderful Things holiday provision in Lancashire.
The cost of providing unusual and engaging holiday activities for those attending Wonderful Things is expensive. We have looked to identify and secure long-term funding or sponsorship to continue to subsidise costs to parents but have been unsuccessful in this within Rossendale and Chatburn. This funding gap led to increasing our prices this year to £17 per day but it has not been sufficient to cover our costs and the reaction to the increase has led us to conclude that a further price rise will reduce the number of bookings. The providers of our sessions are high calibre, that is what makes Wonderful Things so special, but that quality comes at a cost of between £250 and £300 per day. As much as we have tried to manage the cost of provision, by relying heavily on volunteers to run and assist sessions we have some sessions this summer with only 4 or 5 children booked. We have, therefore, reached the painful decision that to avoid cancellation charges from those providers we must cancel the remaining Summer 2018 holiday provision in Rossendale now.
Wonderful Things will continue to run its unique activities for schools in the Stockport Homes Group area where our organisation is commissioned as part of the Group’s social inclusion work.
We would like to thank you for the support that you have given Wonderful Things in Lancashire.
